On this Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in Lakewood Public Library's main auditorium, I'll talk about how the tragedy of my brother John's 1994 suicide led me from the corporate world to the keyboard.

I'll also discuss a writing life lived mostly in the trenches and eventually celebrated in humor in The Irish Hungarian Guide to the Domestic Arts, which the Plain Dealer's Michael Heaton calls, "whip-smart, heart-felt and subversively funny enough to cause unsuspecting readers to choke on their guffaws."

John and I grew up in Lakewood and are both Lakewood High School grads.

Of course I'll be taking questions on my writing as well as my brother's body of work, which includes his groundbreaking 1990 novel Leaving Las Vegas. 

Copies of The Irish Hungarian will be available for sale and signing at this free public event.
